Album of the Week
*Unable to post tomorrow so will post tonight instead*
This week I present to you Angel Dust by Faith No More. This album was one that I have known about for a few years but it has had more significance to me recently as it manages to cater to the mood I have been in.
This album was released in 1992 and when released, was considered a career suicide as it strayed from the previous style of Faith No More in other albums. While The Real Thing was a huge success and displayed higher-pitched vocals from their new lead singer Mike Patton and more early influences of hardcore and rock, Angel Dust is completely different but very pleasantly surprising. If you aren't interested in some thrashy experiments, heavy metal or a driving force...this album isn't for you. But for those who are game, I strongly recommend this album.
I couldn't believe that this album flopped to the critics. Faith No More wanted to present an album to the world that challenged everyone's ideas and perceptions of music. They wanted to change it up and change they did. It combines hard, driving songs like "Malpractice" with soft and sentimental songs like "Easy."
If you didn't know, "Easy" is actually originally a song that belonged to Lionel Richie but Faith No More absolutely killed this song and it became a hit. Rightly so, this is the only version I will listen to because I hate Lionel Richie but also because they did such a good job with the overall sound, vocals and presentation.
