Dexter: Season 4- Review

This was a tempestuous season and my favourite at that. The reason being was that it was so thorough, included a unique villain with a story and a twist that most people can get behind, plus there were so many shock scenes that oozed out. There are a few reviews out that say that the series should end here and for that, I will agree but I'll get more into that as the rest of my season reviews come out.

In this season, Dexter notices (as does everyone else in his life) that he's failing to balance his work life, family life and extra curricular activities. In the grand scheme of things, his family life becomes neglected and ultimately fills Dexter with some deep seated regrets all throughout the season, particularly at the end.

I haven't really discussed characters appearing in this show, but one character that stuck out was John Lithgow as Arthur Millar. The only reason I've singled him out here is because I have some incredibly mixed emotions to what I saw. Many years ago when I was little, I had a disk for the computer called Books By You. Essentially it's where children can write their own books in a 'choose-your-own-adventure' style. As I'd write a book, John would appear in a mini screen and talk about writing techniques, funny things and serve to give some inspiration. Now having grown up with that disk and seeing him portray the ruthless Trinity Killer, my childhood shattered. He does a brilliant job anyway and it's always funny to me seeing that transition and flexibility within his resume of film roles. I liked how he contributed to Dexter this season.

I can't say too much else about this season because it has so much going on, yet everything is an important detail that links back to previous seasons, but also makes this season one for reference in later seasons. It's still my favourite series and I have yet to witness something on a similar level.

Score: 10/10.
