Fear of a Blank Planet- Album Review
This is my next album review, so here is Fear of a Blank Planet by Porcupine Tree.
Chances are, most of you wouldn’t have heard of Porcupine Tree and that reason may simply be because these guys have stayed pretty alternative in the whole 30 years that they have been active. If you haven’t heard of them, you’re really missing out and I fully suggest that you open up the treasure box and give them a proper and thorough listen.
If you want to celebrate an artist’s creativity, give Mr. Steven Wilson a huge round of applause. His lyrics are beautiful and his voice has the ability to sing you to sleep, make you cry or make you smile. Again, this is a rare luxury but if you look in the right places you’re bound to find something.
I can’t really explain how I found out about this band. One day I did some searching on youtube and a few songs from their previous albums popped up. As I plugged in, it was literal music to my ears. Of course, depending on my mood I may avoid Steven as sometimes I cannot take how emotive his voice is but it’s always nice to come running back to him.
So this album was released 10 years ago (at the time of its release it marked the 20 year anniversary of Porcupine Tree’s career). In my personal opinion, this album is my favourite from Porcupine Tree as I’m just so easily able to connect with it. It holds a whole lot of meaning, emotion and memory for me. Think of this album as a security blanket but also one that allows you to peel it back and break away. To some, this album may be a little too soft and in some cases, a little too emotional for them. But the way this album has been constructed and produced has got me thinking otherwise.
My personal favourite song off this album is track number 6, Sleep Together. Oh boy does this have meaning and relevance in my life. It’s the kind of song I would have to the soundtrack of my life. It’s just that important to me. So with that, I leave you to go and discover a new band today (and discover a new band you should, everyday). This is Porcupine Tree with their masterpiece Fear of a Blank Planet.
*Feel free to pop me a message through ‘contact’ telling me your thoughts about the band/ this album and let me know if there are any albums, movies or brands that you would like me to review, I’ll be more than happy to do so.*
