Product Review- Dr Martens

If you’re familiar with Doc Martens as a brand, you’ll know that they are among a small list of brands who manufacture a long-lasting, comfortable and self expressionistic shoe. The company began in 1901 and since then have worked tirelessly to build a shoe and sole that would fit any and every individual no matter what the shoe’s purpose was.

In the 1970s, punks in the UK wore these boots during parades, underground gigs and strike riots, in the 1980s women began to adopt the style and customize their boots and in the 1990s, self-loathing (not true), angsty and grunge-loving teens and adults wore these boots to portray a sense of meaning in such a consumerist and cruel world.

I received my first pair of Docs when I was 14. The black pair that you see in the first picture are those very same pair. They were my mother’s in the 90s and have been the most important heirloom inherited.

So down to the overall product review:

1. These shoes are very comfortable and are designed for those who walk long distances and long for something that will hold their foot in place and won’t crack their heels. (They were once used for people in the military)

2. You can’t argue with the quality of this shoe. Naturally, always look for an authenticity label/ sticker to ensure you get the original shoes. Unfortunately, competitive sites and cheap alternatives are duping this shoe.

3. Regardless of your age, gender or race: these shoes are for everyone!

4. The only cons with this shoe is that you do need to wear thick socks to prevent blisters (like any other shoe) if it is your first pair and if they are brand new. Wear them in a bit to get the best wear.

5. There are so many styles of Docs, like t-bar Mary Jane’s, 8 hole lace-ups (like the ones pictured), canvas, wedges, dress boots and many more!

6. While the products may differ in price (some may find them to be a little pricey), it is only because they are made of real leather and are of the highest quality.*

*If you want to find cheap Docs but original ones, eBay, Amazon and Gumtree are good places to look.

If you’re looking for a shoe that allows you to be who you are with style and comfort, look no further. Psychologically they say that a person first makes up an impression of someone first by looking at their shoes!

White Pair + Red Pair: Purchased on Gumtree $70 for 2.

Black Pair: Inherited from mum. Retail price in 1993 was around $150-200

Floral Pair: Purchased at Platypus Shoes on sale for $47.95

These shoes also come in VEGAN leather to cater for anyone and everyone's needs!
