Peep Show: Season 1 Review

I had been waiting to see this show for a few months now but wanted to wait and finish some ongoing shows first. I'll be honest, it wouldn't have mattered when I watched this anyway. I wasn't missing much.

This British black comedy show features the talents of David Mitchell and Robert Webb.

The general synopsis of this show follows two flatmates and friends in London who couldn't be more opposite from each other. Mark is a socially-awkward and cynical loan manager who fails to communicate with women and others and Jez is a wannabe musician and slob. It has been styled to look more like a point-of-view, when one character talks to the other, it is seen through the eyes of that person listening and so forth.

The performances: Robert Webb as Jez feels like someone I've known. Sarcastic, unmotivated and at times rude. I actually like his role very much because sometimes I find it relatable and genuinely realistic. If I had to choose, he'd be my favourite character.

David Mitchell as Mark is also relatable in the sense of being unsure of how to communicate with others, the controlling of one's own thoughts and emotions. Equally both executions of the characters have been well constructed.

The cons: Right, so there really weren't any issues with the characters or performances but I think it was more the script and general ideas. I really wanted this show to be as funny as I expected it to, but I can honestly say that this season really only provided a exhaling from my nostrils at best. This is only season one however, so I'm hoping that the remaining 8 seasons will be better.

A short and sweet review here but am ready to prepare for the next season. Hopefully I'll have some better things to say about it. What did you guys think?

Score: 6/10.
