Orange Is The New Black: Season 5 Review

I finished this season a few days ago, but was it really worth it? As a reviewer, you find yourself watching a combination of things that go on your scale anywhere between 1-10 and that includes having to watch with ease or with great disappointment within the first 5 minutes.

I'll admit, when this series started off with its first season, I was hooked. Hooked right up until the fourth season (and perhaps that was because I didn't see anything else I wanted to watch) and was looking forward to seeing this season. How disappointed was I.

The performances: The acting was really just so off. A lot of characters who had accents, ended up aborting them or they faltered. Did anyone else pick up on that? (Particularly Blanca). Everything just felt so rushed but in a very boring kind of way. Throughout this season, I would find my eyes darting everywhere else across the room away from the TV because it was just so painful to watch. I even considered reading the telephone book, because perhaps that would have been more interesting.

It had been a year since the release of season four but even still, it seemed like the creators were losing ideas. They had reintroduced some backstories of inmates which I thought was interesting and possibly the only highlight but it all began to feel so wooden and dry.

Highlights? (Because there's no need for me to address the cons when I literally just slammed it in the above paragraph). The only highlight worth mentioning is just the backstories. Everything else just felt like one disappointment after another.

Obviously there's going to be a season six...hey, there might even be ten seasons. Who knows and above all, who really cares anymore? I wanted and was expecting more from this season and I was denied that. But let me tell you, right from the very beginning, even as a person who used to enjoy this show, I knew that it was overrated. It's one big hype for the people and then when you decide to crawl out from under a rock and see what all the fuss is about, you wished that you hadn't.

Not sure what next year for season six holds and I won't be getting my hopes up much but let's at least just imagine that it'll get better.
