You Get Me- Review
I saw a few people reviewing this movie and a few of my friends were talking to me about it, never mentioning that it was good, but telling me that it existed and whether or not I had seen it. On a very boring night, I decided to check this movie out and see what all the fuss was. I really wish that I hadn't. I'm going to absolutely butcher this review because I'm just so appalled by every aspect, don't crucify me. Directed by Brent Bonacorso this features the "efforts" of Bella Thorne, Halston Sage and Taylor John Smith.
The general synopsis of this movie follows a summer relationship dream of Tyler and his girlfriend Ali as their relationship is tested with the season's change and a new, out-of-town face who will have more of a role in Tyler's life than he thinks.
The performances: What a shocker of a cast and equally their performances in this show. Bella Thorne as the antagonist? Bella Thorne as a cast member? Bella Thorne as an actress? BELLA THORNE? You're kidding me. I can't stand her. I never liked her in any of her little Disney stints or any of her major film roles. She's boring and every time she makes an appearance (ever) I roll my eyes and suddenly the whole film seems to go downhill. Her role of Holly was so manufactured and wooden that once I had seen about five seconds worth of verbal and non-verbal characterisation, I was done. If you want a good movie, don't cast her as a somewhat 'important' role or a role that requires some length on screen. Just don't do it.
Halston Sage...yawn. Again, just another blonde-haired, high-pitched voiced former newbie. That's her role of Ali. I had no interest in her character whatsoever but hey, she was amazingly better than Bella Thorne. I honestly don't have much to say about her because she's so forgettable.
Taylor John Smith...who? Apparently a newcomer to heavily (not sure that's quite the word for this movie) publicised films. Boring, weak and positively flawed, his role of Tyler was just one major nosedive. I didn't care about him, I didn't want to care about him and though he's supposed to be the protagonist he was just so disliked. I have no clue what kinds of people they were looking for at auditions but how these actors managed to land these roles must have meant the expectations were set real low.
The cons: Holy hell, this movie was one big con. What a waste of an hour and twenty nine minutes. Surely I could have watched something else but this Netflix original is quite honestly a piece of shit. Why would anyone want to watch this? Not only do I have a problem with the casting but this movie is just a complete cliché. Your typical teen summer movie where friends all get to hang out, romance on the beach, sex and drugs in the most distasteful, stupid and boring way imaginable. People put their hearts and souls into making wonderful masterpieces to appeal to an audience on a whole. This movie was neither well constructed, well written or thought out or a masterpiece. Surely there have to be some amazing Netflix originals out there but not this one.
Don't bother wasting your time on this one. Even if you are bored to tears, you'll find more entertainment in reading the yellow pages. Save yourself the hassle, internet and data.
Score: 1/10. (Not even sure it's worth even this as a score).
