After a sick twist of events strikes the life of DCI Mathias, involving accusations, attempted murder and a revisit to his past life, he is left in a vulnerable position that replaces his façade of a unemotional and blunt man to that of a lost man.

This season deals with connections, both intimately, personally and case-wise.

While every aspect of this season was flawless as per usual, I really wanted them to tap into DCI Mathias' personal life a little more. I wanted to know more about his family, the reason he is the way he is (in further depth) and his cause for moving to another part of the country prior to the start of the first season.

However, rather than focussing so much on Mathias, this season opened up more of a story for DI Mared Rhys and some of the conflicts she faced in her past life that were also beginning to surface to the present.

Perspective wise, there was a lot to offer in this season. Reoccurrence, revisitation and the knot between past and present are explored so heavily here that it makes for a real conclusion. I'm hoping that this isn't the end for the franchise, but with Brexit, funding will apparently be difficult to access. So for now, I recommend this show to enjoy while ideas are drafted for a possible season four.

Score: 8.5/10.
