Third Eye (Tool Tribute)- Concert January 26th 2018
How'd you spend your Australia day, mate? Beer in hand? Nah. Instead, I was satisfying my curiosity at a pub with free tickets to a tribute concert. Originally at first glance, I thought that the band (Third Eye) were a tribute for Third Eye Blind...in which case I choked on my smoothie in fits of laughter. But further reading told me they were a Melbourne-based band and Australia's only Tool tribute.
My observation above enabled me to win a double pass to see this band but with limited friends available to come out on a public holiday, let alone at an unreasonable location (the outskirts of the CBD are so hard to get to) I was sold on taking one of my best friends.
I've always loved Tool but I will say that I feared a little for what the sound might have been like. A band like Tool are one tough act to follow, but man did these guys achieve perfection. Their lead singer had studied this career well. Everything from his vocals right down to onstage behaviour matched the persona of Maynard James Keenan.
It wasn't hard to get to the front (excuse crappy low-res picture though) as no one was really in any rush and being deafened by the speakers is always the best feeling, however, I wish these guys attracted a larger crowd. They were so deserving of the attention and recognition. It's not easy to mimic such a legendary band, but with great ease, Third Eye absolutely delivered.
