Love Child: Season One- Review

Love Child is an Australian drama that will probably be known only by some of you within this community. My mum actually recommended this show to me because she was obsessed with the aesthetics. Considering that it is set between 1969 and well into the 1970s, it features a pretty outstanding wardrobe of period clothing, the detailing in patterns and even just the general props like cars, houses etc.

It's also had some really positive reviews too so it seemed like I just had to watch it.

Basically, Love Child speaks about the horrors of real life forced adoption, the conflict of Australian soldiers being sent off to Vietnam for the war and the act of being forced in general. Within the presentation of forced adoption, the setting takes place in a fictional hospital in Kings Cross, Sydney. Within it, girls ranging from their early teens to early twenties are met by the hands of callous doctors and find themselves embedded in a series of lies and tears.

In regards to the performances, there wasn't really anyone who went above and beyond. Sure, they all play their parents well and fit their typical roles but nothing is exceeded beyond that point. I would really have loved that. Also, for about five minutes (and a few scenes every now and then) there would be a bit of an exaggeration with speech. I'm not sure what the idea was there but it wasn't at all necessary.

While so far it isn't a show that you'd have me raving about, it does prove to be an entertaining watch and yes, it is very aesthetically pleasing. So I would suggest it as more of a daytime watch that has at least some better acting than any regular soapie.

Score: 6.5/10.
