Underbelly: Badness (Season Five)- Review
Just a few seasons away from completing the entire series.
In this season of Underbelly, crimes involving bikie gang outlaws and their associates are uncovered after a particularly gruesome crime takes place. It particularly follows the criminal activity of Anthony 'Rooster' Perish committed mostly in broad daylight in Sydney. It spans between 2001 to 2012 in an eleven year long lead.
A much better season than Razor, I really was with this season for it's entirety (only of eight episodes this time). However, I don't think anything beats the original first season so far. I think it's more appealing to the audience when recent stories of criminal activity are used. It's closer or exactly how our justice system operates in today's society and shows that criminals could be walking amongst us undetected at any given time. In a way, it's also easier to understand.
Watching Jonathan LaPaglia go from being a respectable and well-liked doctor within the obstetrics profession to a seasoned, rugged-looking criminal was an eye opener. He delivered his role as Anthony Perish effortlessly and achieved all areas of creating a beast in human form. Despite the nature of the real Anthony Perish, I really enjoyed watching the familiarity of his character grow and being able to clearly see the direction in which he wanted to convey his role.
Still hoping that the last few seasons left will meet some semi high expectations. While this season was enjoyable, it would be a waste not to have a few more good seasons that are equally as appealing.
Score: 7/10.
