Big Mouth: Season One- Review

Something a little different: an animated TV series and Netflix Original. As far as Netflix goes, their original series programs are a lot better and more constructed than their films (with the exception of 13 Reasons Why...don't get me started). But I'm sure that the thought of animated entertainment would have turned a few people off.

Let's not forget that some really cool shows like Daria, Beavis and Butthead and Archer exist. The pattern is, they're all comedies.

Sensing a severe lack of comedy out there and being thoroughly disappointed with comedic efforts by live actors, I decided to turn to recent animation. I also think that it is really progressing today and that there are a lot of adult oriented, animated comedies in existence.

In a nutshell, Big Mouth dives into the hallway of a middle school surrounded by children coming to terms with puberty and how it will ultimately affect their lives, in a hilarious and obscene manner.

Yeah, it was a weird show but that's the intention. This show really just works to make light of prepubescence, pubescence and just that general disarray of going through adolescence. I think that because it's aimed at an adult audience, it makes for hearty laughter because we all remember being awkward kids. It's funny watching foul-mouthed cartoon children talk to their hormones (in the form of furry-like hormone monsters), looking for guidance and resulting in further embarrassment from their parents and even confiding in the dead.

Obviously nothing goes further than the entertainment element but it's definitely something light-hearted and easy to watch, probably not with your parents though.

Score: 7/10.
