Safe: Season One- Review
Apologies for some belated posting, I have been incredibly busy with a new management job and Uni exams.
Safe is an English crime drama that focuses on the story of a man pained by his wife's recent death and plagued with worrisome thoughts as his 16 year old daughter suddenly turns up missing.
Whilst I did enjoy this show, I found a few issues. The first thing was Michael C Hall's incredibly strange English accent. In the first few seconds of him speaking, it sounded somewhat Northern and then as the episodes rolled out, came across as a little too stereotypical and 'posh.' To achieve a perfect accent you need consistency as well as some kind of guide. Actors usually seek professional guidance for this but Michael may as well have soaked up this accent from studying various English television shows and ending up with this as a result. The second thing is that it wasn't entirely as dramatic and fast-paced as I imagined. One review stated that it became something like Desperate Housewives and to that remark, I can only agree.
Don't get me wrong though, I think everyone did their very best and the story was able to develop well in due time. There were many twists and turns and I did appreciate the direction. For me, I just really needed to see more accuracy and a little less drama (in terms of it stretching as far as being compared to Desperate Housewives).
Score: 6/10.
